Roberto Fonseca Group

Introduction

Roberto Fonseca is one of the most talented, profound and charismatic young musicians to emerge from Cuba in recent times. Given the extraordinary level of musical talent on the island this is no easy claim. Cuban music is thriving; at the forefront has been the Buena Vista Social Club. From 2003-2006 Roberto Fonseca was their pianist, having succeeded the legendary Ruben González. Fonseca possesses a unique, instrumental voice and emotionally powerful style whose compositions draw on jazz, classical music, traditional Cuban music and the Afro-Cuban heritage. He launched his solo career in Spring 2007 with his new album “ZAMAZU” , on ENJA records

As Ibrahim Ferrer’s pianist he toured the world, playing over 400 concerts. Not a single review of these concerts, from South and North America to Europe and Asia, would fail to mention Fonseca’s talent and his magnetic stage presence. Before Ibrahim’s death in August 2005 he produced and arranged Ibrahim’s last album, his dream of a whole set of boleros, which was released as “Mi Sueño” in March 2007 on World Circuit Records
